Southern Methodist University Hosts Talented and Gifted Students

Talented and Gifted (TAG) students spent time this summer at SMU in Dr. Charles Lovas's class engaged in the SAE's AWIM 2 program. They were seventh grade students and studied gears, friction, force, wheels, axles, weight and balance doing the project.

Student teams were formed and each team determined the market demand, the design goal, the gear ratio, the configuration and the body style for their vehicle. A presentation was made by each team at the end of the project and the vehicles were demonstrated. SMU engineering staff and Faculty mentored the class. Dr. Lovas plans to repeat the program next year.
